When I’m a child and literally the only representations of trans women (when they’re even there) are that they’re pervy cross dressers who just want to trick men or generally something to be mocked, it made it very difficult to admit to myself that *I* was like that. Nobody else was educated on trans women- the media was all I had. I didn’t even know I was legitimate until I was in my 20s.
not sure if I’m “allowed” to comment on this being hetero-cis myself, but… the difference between being a transgender person and being a transvestite is something I still have to explain to my peers. Our peers. Our fucking millennial generation still has trouble understanding the difference.
It still blows my mind how the status of ancient ‘queer’ individuals has been completely whitewashed from history. Much of antiquity celebrated it and recognised in those individuals a certain interesting, creative, ‘spiritual’ power. The idea that equality should be achieved is nauseating to me….
